Further beyond Melmerby is the beautiful and sinuous Ullswater Lake with its historic steamer boats, glorious walks and of course, swathes of the daffodils that inspired the poet William Wordsworth. Cazenovia Hall is a Grade II listed holiday home within the secluded grounds of the family owned Grade I listed Blencowe Hall. Sensitively renovated to a high standard, Cazenovia Hall is a 5 Star Gold Award winning, light and airy four bedroom traditional stone built barn dating back to 1726. It has views up over the nearby hills and its secluded south facing sandstone terraces are a marvellous place to wind down after a day out exploring in the Lake District.

Grade II Listed Wythburn Cottage is also set within the secluded grounds of this splendid estate. This sandstone barn conversion has been sensitively renovated to a high standard. A private garden area and sandstone steps down to its front terrace give access to Wythburn's oak floored entrance hall and cathedral-ceilinged, enormous breakfasting kitchen. This unique conversion incorporates a first floor reception room with cast iron stove and a sandstone framed opening overlooking the kitchen area.

Close at hand is the Aira Force National Trust waterfall offering a great combination of a boulder strewn stream for the young at heart to paddle in, a tea shop and a scenic walk up to the peak of Gowbarrow Fell. Vale Croft was built in original local sandstone, the retreat floods with light by day and shields you from the elements by night. An open plan living area offers a sandstone fireplace with wood burner at one end, a dining area in the centre and a fully equipped kitchen at the other. There’s underfloor heating and oak ledged and braced doors throughout, high ceilings and breathtaking views.

Melmerby is a small village which has a lovely little village post office tea room shop, a great and reasonably priced antique shop and The Old Village Bakery which serves breakfasts, lunches, coffees, homemade bread and cakes and has a lovely interior, ladies fashion and gift shop. There is also a wonderful village pub called The Shepherd's Inn which is very welcoming and serves delicious food. All these are within a short walk from the farmhouse and cottage.
