The house is situated in the heart of the village of Glin with shops and pubs within a two minute walk. Locals like to swim from the pier or local stand (pebbly) which is just a five minute walk. Otherwise there is a sandy beach at Beale, Co. Kerry which is approximately 20 mins drive or Ballybunion which is a 30 mins drive, Ballybunion is also a good surfing beach as is Lahinch (90 mins drive including car ferry from Tarbert, which is just a five minutes drive)). Local amenities include (apart from many public houses!) a fish and chip shop, a Chinese take away and the Conway's bar which serves carvery lunches on weekdays. Glin Castle is also within a five minute walk of the property and is open to the public for tours by appointment. The Castle also offers wonderful evening meals of a very high standard by reservation only.

Listowel 15 miles is popular for its horse racing in September, and writers week in June. Glin village hosts a Fleadh Cheoil and Regatta in the summer time. This is a wonderful base from which to see the main tourist attractions of the west coast.
