Peacefully situated in the grounds of Lannhall House, Tynron in the Shinnel Glen, this detached holiday property, furnished and equipped to an excellent standard, offers panoramic views over open countryside and a view of Tynron Doon. Nestling in the heart of the Dumfriesshire countryside, with rolling hills and farmlands, there is extensive walking throughout the Shinnel Glen and surrounding countryside and the opportunity to watch deer, red squirrel, birds of prey and owls in their natural surroundings. Nearby is Thornhill with a multitude of up-market independent shops, several good country house hotels (including Trigony House Hotel), tennis club, squash club and an 18-hole golf course. There are numerous other superb 18-hole golf courses within an easy drive. The area offers many places to eat, from bar snacks to food prepared by award-winning chefs at the Linen Room in Dumfries and Blackaddie Country House Hotel in Sanquhar. Local attractions include Drumlanrig Castle, the home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, which has a superb art collection, beautiful gardens and extensive country park; Andy Goldsworthy’s Penpont Cairn and his new Striding Arches and soon the Sanquhar quarry project. At the May Bank Holiday, Portrack House with its superb architectural gardens designed by Charles Jenks is open to the public. This area of Nithsdale has many links to Scotland’s most famous poet, Robert Burns. He lived and worked in various sites in the locality. His home at Ellisland Farm is open to the public and he visited many areas of the countryside as the local taxman working for Customs. There are many local music festivals throughout the year - at Moniaive there is an annual folk festival. Visitors can enjoy a rich diversity of festivals and events - from blues music on the Solway shore to off-the-wall cabaret, from tango weekends to new writing nights, from kinetic sculpture to a brand-new beer festival.
